The Irony of life

There are n ups and n downs, to go 1 up I need to climb up, but then to go 2 up I have to climb down and up and same for 3 up, and so on. Someday I again have to back to 1 up and I have an fair idea of what 1 up was but amazingly I forget I still have to down and up.
